How many coloured belts are there? In total, there are 6 coloured belts and 9 degrees of black belts. In between each of the coloured belts, there is a contrasting stripe, i.e. white belt/white belt yellow stripe etc. The sequence and meanings of belts are as follows: WHITE The beginning student who has no previous knowledge of Taekwon-Do. YELLOW Signifies earth, from which a plant sprouts and takes root as the Taekwon-Do foundation is being laid. GREEN This signifies the plant’s growth as Taekwon-Do skills begin to develop. BLUE Signifies the heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Taekwon-Do progresses. RED Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control, whilst warning the opponent to stay away. BLACK Signifies maturity and proficiency in Taekwon-Do. It also indicates the wearers imperviousness to darkness and fear.
For young juniors we have two special belts to start their Taekwon-Do career. Purple stripe (Integrity Grade 1) Orange stripe (Integrity Grade2) |
