BEACH BARBEQUE
Saturday August 14th was the date set for our annual thank you to all Integrity members and their families. This year we decided to have a beach bbq, unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side and we had a few short downpours, however the spirits weren't dampened! Many thanks to Christian for being our resident chef, all in all approx 60 people turned up and had a great time.

TWO OF OUR STUDENTS COMPETED IN TAEKWON-DO WORLD CHAMPS
Marcus Jones and Ben Tun pe flew out to Korea to take part in the 15th world Taekwon-Do championships in Cheunj Ju Korea on June 30th. Marcus took part in the senior male pattern event, whilst Ben competed in the mens micro sparring category, unfortunately on this occasion they weren't successful, however both the categories were packed with world class opposition. They've both vowed to return to Canada for the next world championships in 2012. We'd like to say the even though they didn't come away with any silverware we at Integrity are very proud of them. England were narrowly beaten into 2nd place by Argentina on the overall medals table. Some of the picture below were taken on the last day before returning home.

TWO BROTHERS REPRESENT INTEGRITY AT DEVON OPEN CHAMPS
Congratulations go out to Joshua and James Freeman who travelled down to Torbay to take part in a large TKD championships. The day had well over 250 competitors and both boys had very large divisions to compete in. Both boys took part in patterns, high kick and sparring. James beat four fighters to take the gold in the lightweight sparring category, so well done James, better luck next time for Joshua. And a special thanks to the boys parents for supporting their children, it's really nice to see such fantastic support.

TWO INTEGRITY STUDENTS ARE SELECTED FOR THE ITF WORLD CHAMPS
Our sincere congratulations go out to two of our students who have been selected for the up and coming World Taekwon-Do championships in Korea in the summer.
They both qualified to represent their country for the first time. This is a tremendous achievment for both of them. And indeed we are very proud of both of them.

Marcus Jones IV Degree senior patterns
Ben Tunpe I Degree Micro sparring

If anyone has any ideas regarding sponsorship for our lads, (the trip is likely to cost £2,000 per person) please let us know.

TORI FARRAN SHOWS SHE'S GOT WHAT IT TAKES

On February 21st Tori Farran, took part in her first 'big 3 round fight' This fight was against the older Meagan Scott from Plymouth's Taurus gym. The show was at the fantastic Plymouth Guild hall, and was supported by over 400 passionate fight fans. Tori who is only 14!! was up against Meagan Scott who had a big age advantage over her opponent. To Tori's tremendous credit she fought through the whole three rounds and proved to everyone in the venue what a tremendous heart and spirit she had.

I have to say the first round was not what she had trained for it was as near as you could get to full contact. The referee got the message and the next two rounds were more like Tori was expecting.

As the title suggests she did herself proud with her performance. As soon as she'd finished she said " I want to do it all again"
WOW THAT GIRL'S GOT WHAT IT TAKES

INTEGRITY'S 1ST FULL CONTACT FIGHT
On November 29th we had our first fighter Darren Eveleigh on the 'All or nothing' cage fighting show in Bridgewater, this was Darren's first fight and WOW what a fight it was, the crowd were treated to three rounds of no stop toe to toe action, Darren proved that he has a great chin after he was hit with two cracking right hands in rounds two and three, and even though towards the end of round three he was running on empty, Darren showed that he has a real future in the sport, especially with his all action style, he came away with a unanimous victory over his bigger opponent from the excellent Taurus gym in Plymouth. We would like to wish Darren all the best with his future which we're sure will be a bright one.

Earlier on the same day several of our competitors travelled to Sherborne for the South west martial arts championships, we came away with several medals and again our congratulations go out to all. The following won their respective divisions.

Richard Winton Hand destruction
Liam Winton Junior high kick
Marcus Hutton Middleweight TKD sparring
Alex Tanswell KB Middleweight sparring
Max Townsend Team Tiger power drill
Natasha Pickard Junior high kick

WINTER CAMP

Integrity held it's first winter camp earlier in November at the luxurious Dorset golf and country club near Wareham, we had thirty people on the weekend which consisted of three nights accomodation in the fantastic lodges at the club, we trained twice a day on Saturday and Sunday, all for less than £100 for the whole weekend !! Everyone had a great time and no doubt next year the camp will be twice the size. We'd like to thank everyone for taking part and the Instructors for their considerable knowledge.

  •
  • SKY TV PROGRAMME 'FOOTBALL BEHIND BARS'
  • Back in the summer a tv company working for Sky tv approached us to take part in a documentary series to help educate young offenders and help them with their struggle to get back into society. In particular the producers wanted us to show the prisoners that when it comes to conflict,  there is an alternative to extreme violence. FAST defence was the medium that they wanted to show so as Integrity is lucky enough to have one of the pioneers of FAST in Europe in Malcolm Jones. The filming took part in July and the show has recently been aired on Sky1. Integrity would like to thank Mark Wingfield for his help during the project.

  • Integrity as always is very proud of every one who passed on the day.

  • GOOD LUCK LES
  • We need to draw everyone's attention to someone who has influenced an touched alot of lives during his time with martial arts. Les Stokes has been involved with Taekwon-Do since the mid 1990's, since that time he has been widely regarded as an ambassador for Taekwon-Do and indeed kickboxing. He's been a model student Instructor and friend, and will be sadly missed by all of us.
  •
  • We know he doesn't want alot of fuss, but we cannot sit back and let him go without him knowing what he meant to us!!
  •
  • However life goes on, and we wish him all the best in his new life and hopefully he will still keep in contact with us from time to time.
  • GOOD LUCK SIR IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE KNOWING YOU AND SPENDING TIME WITH YOU
  • INTEGRITY FUN DAY
  • Saturday June 26th saw the first Integrity community fun day held in Blandford with money being raised for local charities. Well over 200 members of the public/students came through the gates and had a great time on the various inflatable rides and attractions, the kids were treated to a show by 'Krazy Kev ' the day was packed full off things for the whole community, including fire engines, martial art demo's, bands and best of all the 'sponge an Instructor' This proved to be a major attraction for everybody. We'd like to thank everybody who helped on the day and look forward to next years event, which looks like it's going to be huge!!
  • SENIOR INSTRUCTOR ITF SEMINAR
  • Mrs Robinson and Mr Jones had the honour of attending senior grade ITF training weekend in London on the weekend of June 14th. This weekend was the first of it's kind ever to be held by the ITF instructors travelled from all over the world as far as Argentina, Australia, Canada, Malaysia and the USA as well as most of Europe.
  •
  • There were approx 90 instructors training under the expert eye of the ITF's president Choi Jung Hwa. Also in attendence to teach along side General Choi's son were an addition 16 Masters such as Master Nicholls, Master Wheatley and Master Parm Rai. The 3 day training covered all the black belt Tuls in great detail. Master Choi emphasised the use of power in Tuls, as he felt that Taekwon-Do had moved away from what his Father wanted.
  •
  • During the weekend president Choi told us the exciting news of the ITF moving back to it's homeland of South Korea, and how through extensive work the Korean government has agreed to lend it's support.
  •
  • MARK WEIR SEMINAR
  • The management at Integrity were asked some time ago to put on a MMA seminar, so we thought Hmmm who can we get, we knew some local fighters who have fought at a fairly high level and are very talented individuals, but we thought that we would approach in our opinion the very best the UK has to offer, so we were very proud to offer none other than Mark 'The wizard' Weir

  • Mark is probably the UK's best known MMA fighter, he holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history, and has fought with the best in the world such as Tito Ortiz and Chuck Lidell, he's been fighting in all styles since the eighties Integrity got to know him when he was crowned world Taekwon-Do champion, in 1988.
  • Mark opened the seminar with a warm up that he uses for all his up and coming fighters, his game plan is almost exclusively designed around mobility, for him that's the key for all martial art's whether it be TKD kickboxing or MMA. His philosophy is very much one of avoidance, in his own words 'if you don't get hit you can't lose' For a man of 41, he was amazing his flexibilty and power were a joy to behold.
  •
  •
  • Most of the seminar was based on stand up and working from the clinch and practising shooting, for those who are unaware 'shooting' is a term referred to rushing in to attempt to grapple with your opponent. All the students loved the seminar and look forward to Mark's return, hopefully in the not to distant future

  •  INTEGRITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • The last weekend in February saw well over 400 people cram into the Blanford leisure centre to witness the first Integrity championships, competitors came not only from Integrity, but also our close network friends, the disciplines on show were Taekwon-Do, Team tiger's and kickboxing, and everyone had a great day out.
  •
  • The best part of the day was that no one had to visit the first aid room!! A first for a martial art's tournament, as far as I'm concerned.
  •
  • The next championships will probably have to be re-housed as the venue struggled to hold the amount of competitors/spectators.
  •
  • Our hearty congratulations go out to all who competed, and our thanks go to the officialls, who gave up their day to run the event.
  •
  • SEE YOU NEXT TIME!!!!

  • INTEGRITY BLACK BELT GRADINGS
  • November 15th saw the first Network Taekwon-Do black belt grading in Plymouth, the exam was held by Master Trevor Nicholls, secretary general of the ITF. The grading was preceeded by a two hour seminar with Master Nicholls who captivated the students with his vast knowledge of genuine Taekwon-Do.
  • The main topics in the seminar included the explanation of sine wave, making sure that everyone understood that sine wave or bow wave as Master Nicholls explained it isn't merely an 'down up down' movement. This was followed on with power kicking drills.
  •                                                         .
  •
  • The following Integrity students were promoted :
  • Mrs Kim Robinson V Degree
  • Mr Toby Cameron II Degree
  • Mr Michael Wyatt I Degree
  • Mr Marcus Hutton I Degree
  • Miss Tarryn Williams I Degree
  • Our congratulations go out to all the students who passed on the day
  •
  • Five days later it was the turn of the kickboxers to show off their skills at Salisbury Boxing gym, the grading which lasted approx 50 mins was the toughest grading yet, the five students were tested on the skill, padwork, stamina, knowledge and sparring ability. All the students passed with flying colours, with our own Vanessa Walters passing to Ist Degree.
  •
  • Many Congratulations Ma'am
  •
  • All the students will be joined by their family and friends at a special celebration meal in December
  • MASTER CHOI JUNG HWA TAEKWON-DO SEMINAR WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 8TH

  • Several Integrity Black belts took the fantastic opportunity to train with Master Choi Jung Hwa 9th Degree in Bristol. The seminar was  attended by many of the leading Instructors and students from the west country all keen to share some of Master Choi's vast experience and knowledge.

  •

  • This knowledge was not from someone full of arrogance and selfishness, but from one of the most humble and most caring martial art's Masters I've ever had the priviledge to meet. We only spent two hours in his company but along with the help of Master Nicholls and Master Dalton, we learnt perhaps more than words can describe, yeah sure we only got to do three patterns, but I personally learned so much more, if anyone reading this is thinking, well he's not General Choi is he, well of course he's not, but as his son, he is the only person in the world who truly understands his father's philosophies and teachings.

  •

  • The main thrust of the seminar was the use of the body to maximise what individual students pocess, the first hour concentrated on the front kick, with emphasis on the speed of the kicking leg, Master Choi continually used other sports such as football and baseball and golf to get us to understand how to use correct body mechanics. We then started to practise Chon Ji Tul, and was introduced to the Kihap's in the pattern as the ITF are now promoting. We got as stated before to finish Do san before the event was over and the room got ready for the celebration Banquet, unfortunately we all had to travel back home. The journey home was full of praise for the Master's teaching style and humility, which makes him the man he is.

  • CARL SAMS AND JOHN ORCHARD KICKBOXING SEMINAR
  • On September 25th Integrity was lucky enough to host a 2 hour Kickboxing seminar in Blandford with Top European trainer and promoter Carl Sams, and the current World super middleweight Kickboxing champion John Orchard. The seminar was well attended with special guests Mr Chris Wood and Mr Don Deedigan. The seminar kicked off with a 15-20 minute warm up taken by John himself, it culminated in a mini fitness test which some of us excelled and others were left falling slightly below the average mark, the exercises were simple everyday bodyweight exercises, but done very strictly making the muscles work at greater efficiency.

  • The next phase moved on to upper body evasion, this for me was the best part of the seminar with Carl and John giving us simple  techniques and strategies, to both avoid getting hit and close the opponent down. Like all good seminars, the content was simple and easy to learn or adapt, making the whole two hours a very wothwhile experience.
  •
  • John and Carl were both superb in their teaching style, both being very relaxed and friendly and approachable, alot of the atendees had never seen John before, and they all commented on how he hasn't got an ounce of arrogance about him. Now considering he's the best Super middleweight in the world, not just some 'Mickey Mouse' type champion, that is a very admirable quality.
  •
  • Carl is the ultimate proffessional coach, having trained John and a host of other credible World and European champions, he's also a good friend of mine, and if you're reading this Carl  'Thank you Sir, for all your help over the years'
  •
  • The seminar ended with a question and answer section where the students could fire questions at both men. Common questions were training regimes, diets, toughest opponents etc. All in all the seminar was a massive success and we will be asking both gentlemen back for sure.
